Abstract The degradation of wheat bran by Bacillus cereus Bacillus sp. X10-l-2 was studied by means of
measuring concentralion of reducing sugar and soluble lolal sugar acTivities of cellulase and hemicellulase in ler-
nenled broth weight loss crysTallinity FTR and surface slrucLure of residue. The results showed that the
process of biodegradation of lignocellulose is acLually simultaneous saccharification and fermentaTion. Cellulase and
hemi-cellulase activities reached highest level in 12 h and 48 h respectively. Concentration of soluble total sugar
ng sugar reached highest level in 4 h and 12 h. Crystallinity of residue had not obvious change after 5 d
cultivation. FTR spectrum of residue showed that Bacillus sp. X10-1-2 mainly degraded hemi-cellulose in
wheat bran. After 5 d cultivation degradation rate of the main components in wheat bran were 2. 72% 25 61%0
and 1.09% respectively. SEM of surface structure of degraded wheat bran by Bacillus sp. X10-1-2 showed
that framework of honeycombed structure was degraded
